Ravenous But Inefficient

Metallic gel ink on black cotton paper, 10 x 14 in. Set of twelve.

“Ravenous But Inefficient” is a set of twelve abstract, generative paintings created with a robotic pen plotter. The robot follows instructions produced by a generative algorithm that creates a unique output every time it is run. These twelve paintings comprise a representative sample of the program’s output.

Several sine wave oscillation functions, each with differing periods and amplitudes, combine to alter the size and orientation of hundreds of polygons to create a cluster of macroshapes. These macroshapes flow around an eddy current located near the center of the canvas, producing gentle bends and creases.
